Big Time Safety Visits Wake

Arguably the best team in the state of North Carolina last year was the Dudley Panthers. The state 3-AA champs were led on defense by safety David Amerson. The talented prospect spoke with DeaconSports about his offers and recent visit to Wake.

David Amerson is the prototypical safety. He has great speed and athletic ability to go with his 6'3, 190 pound frame. "What makes me a good safety is my athleticism and ability to go get the ball at it's highest point," stated Amerson. "I am also real aggressive and have good football instincts."

With all of these attributes, it is no surprise that Amerson is getting plenty of attention this spring. "All the attention has really been a blessing," said Amerson. "It has been my dream growing up to play college ball and to be recruited like this. I am just going to stay humble and keep working hard though."

The offers have been rolling in for Amerson this spring. He is well over double digits at this point and will possibly get more this summer. "I have offers from Notre Dame, Duke, Wake Forest, Clemson, Texas Tech, East Carolina, Maryland, Stanford, Louisville, Kentucky, Virginia Tech, North Carolina, and South Carolina."

Amerson recently visited Wake Forest to see the 2009 team in action and came away very impressed. "The visit to Wake went real well. I enjoyed the whole day I spent there. The coaches and players really make me feel at home and like I am already part of the team. I am also close with Kenny Okoro which helps. They have really moved up my list."

With a huge offer list and interest coming from numerous other Division I schools, do the Deacs have a real shot at Amerson? "I am very interested in Wake and in no way would count them out. I know their players real well, they have a great coaching staff, and it's close to home."

Amerson does not plan to drag out his recruitment and hopes to come a decision in the not so distant future. "I really want to decide this summer. I want to be sure of my decision before I make it but I want it our of the way before my senior season."

Amerson also mentioned he wold be attending a Nike camp soon as well as the Clemson spring game. Amerson also plans to be in attendance on April 18th for Wake's spring game.
