Pahokee Standout Eyeing Wake

With the success former Pahokee athlete Alphonso Smith had at Wake Forest, there is no doubt the Demon Deacons would like to get a few more player from "Muck City." One of those players is talented defensive back Merril Noel...

Great athletes come out of the small community of Pahokee, Florida every season. This year is no different. One of the players that has made a splash on the recruiting scene is talented defensive back Merril Noel.

Noel and his teammates are preparing for spring ball and are poised to make another run at a state title.

"I've been hitting the weight room hard," said Noel. "I have also been working on my conditioning and focusing on my classwork."

Noel is a very aggressive and athletic corner that doesn't mind getting physical. "I like to get in the receiver's face. I enjoy playing bump and run coverage and I just try to play fast and physical. Down here we grow up tough. You play against the best down here."

Colleges around the country have noticed Noel's tremendous skills and have stepped up and offered him a scholarship. "Recruiting is really exciting for me. I never thought this would happen. When Wake offered me it gave me a real boost. They just put a former Pahokee player in the league which is big. FSU offered and that is a team I grew up watching. I also have offers from Georgia and West Virginia as well as Tennessee."

Noel knows quite a bit about the Demon Deacon program. "I really think Wake has a good program. They send players to the league but also have very good academics. Three former Pahokee players went there and were successful."

Noel also mentioned Wake has offered his teammates Zachary Allen and Antonio Ford. "A couple of us have really talked about playing together in college. It would be great if we find the right situation."

Noel said he has no timetable for a decision and will make one when he finds the right fit. He also mentioned wherever he goes, he wants a chance to play early.

Noel mentioned Georgia is trying to get him down for a visit soon and that he may be visiting Wake this month.
