Barksdale One To Watch

2011 forward C.J. Barksdale out of George Washington High School (Danville, VA) is a name to keep a very close eye on. The 6'7 prospect is coming off of a terrific sophomore season and has kept up his stellar player with the Richmond Squires. DeaconSports spoke with Barksdale about his AAU season thus far as well as his recruitment.

C.J. Barksdale has everything coaches like in a forward. He is long, athletic, can score the ball, and takes a lot of pride in rebounding and blocking shots. As a sophomore, playing in the largest division in Virginia high school basketball, Barksdale averaged 18 points, 12 rebounds, and 4 blocks per game.

So far this spring, Barksdale has carried over his terrific play. "AAU season is going good," said Barksdale. "We have played in a couple big tournaments and had good finishes in both. I think I am playing good so far. I am averaging around 22 points a game which leads the team."

Barksdale is not content with his success and is continuing to work hard and improve his game. "I have really been working hard in the weight room to improve my strength. I am also still improving my jumping ability and defense. I just am trying to improve my game every day."

Barksdale is truly a pleasure to watch play. He plays all out every time he takes the court. "I really like to get out and run and play in transition. I am also a good shot blocker and I rebound with a passion. I just work hard when I'm on the court."

There is no doubt Barksdale is tracking as a high major prospect and he is currently hearing the most from four major programs. "I really hear the most from Wake Forest, Virginia Tech, UNC, and Florida."

Barksdale claims he is "highly" interested in Wake Forest and he would like to play in the ACC. He also mentioned he would like to visit Wake Forest soon.

Barksdale and his Richmond Squires teammates will be playing next weekend in the Bob Gibbons Tournament of Champions.
