Playing for nearby Greensboro Dudley High School, Hairston has had many opportunities to watch Wake Forest games and listed them as one of the top five schools that he is looking to attend. In addition to Wake Forest, Hairston named UNC, Florida, Memphis and Georgetown as his current top five. He is good friends with Reggie Bullock (UNC commit) and Melvin Tabb (Wake Forest commit) so if he should choose either one of those schools, he would have a friend to play basketball with as he continues his playing career at a top level institution.
Over the past year, it has been thought in recruiting circles that P.J. would "jump" at a UNC offer but told reporters that that is not necessarily the case. "Not really," he said. "I am keeping my options open right now."
Additionally, Hairston remarked that he would like to hold off on his decision for a little bit. "I want to wait a while because I don't want to regret an early decision later," he said when pressed for whether he was going to make a decision soon about his college choice.
Since he is in the 2011 class, he has some time to refine his game and work on the area he needs to improve upon. "I want to improve my driving to the basket," he noted. Considering his advanced skill level at this early stage, we would not bet against him doing just that.
