2011 Intro: Chris Wilson

Much has been said about the great crop of talent in the state of North Carolina for 2011. One of those players is 6'2 , 190 pound point guard Chris Wilson from Fayetteville. Wilson has seen his recruitment really pick up this offseason including interest from Wake Forest.

Chris Wilson is poised to break out and become one of the best players in North Carolina. The strong point guard out of Fayetteville helped Terry Sanford High School get to the state 4-A title game last season and is working hard to be the best player he can be.

"I have been to quite a few showcase events this offseason," said Wilson. "I did the Carolina Challenge as well as some elite camps. In my free time, I am in the gym Monday through Friday at 6 a.m."

Wilson has been to elite camps at Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia. At Tennessee, he got to match up with 2010 point guard Josh Selby and reports are that Wilson more than held his own.

"The first game at Tennessee camp I went against Josh Selby. We went at it pretty hard. Josh is a great player but I feel I outplayed him that day and surprised him with my aggressiveness. I like playing against good competition. I love the challenge."

Wilson also has a great feel for the point guard position and knows what he needs to do on the court to make his team better. "I play aggressive all the time. Whether that is looking to score or pass the ball to my teammates. I love to put pressure on the defense and keep them on their heels. I use my size to get in the lane and finish or kick it to one of my teammates. I think it is important for the point guard to get the team a good shot each time down the court, You have to be a good leader and keep your teammates involved in the game which is what I do."

Wilson says he patterns his game after one of the best young point guards in the NBA. "I play like Deron Williams. We are similar in size and style and I really like his game."

On the recruiting front, Wilson has seen interest pick up since June. "I have been in contact with Virginia Tech, Virginia, Maryland, West Virginia, South Carolina, Tennessee, Clemson, Wake Forest, Marquette, Villanova, and Old Dominion. VCU has already offered me."

The talented point guard visited Wake Forest a few weeks ago and was very impressed with what he saw. "The visit went great. I love the small campus and environment there. Also, the academics are second to none. The facilities there were great and the staff made me feel very comfortable. My family really liked it too. I enjoy talking with Coach Battle and Coach Gaudio."

If the Demon Deacons were to offer, would that put them at the top of his list? "Definitely. If Wake offers they would be very high on my list."

As for his decision, Wilson said that he is looking for a school with good academics first and foremost. He also stated he wants to go somewhere and make a difference in the program and play for a coach that will trust him with running the team.

In August, Wilson will be attending the Chris Paul Backcourt Skills Academy in Winston-Salem which he is very excited about. Also, Wilson was recently moved up to the D-One 17u team and will be playing with them for the rest of the summer.
