Johnson Narrows List To Two

Decision day is getting closer for Maryland athlete Kevin Johnson. The 6'1, 160 pound athlete has earned nine offers but tells DeaconSports that he has narrowed his choices down to two.

"I went to three summer camps," Kevin Johnson said. "I went to Wake Forest, UConn, and North Carolina. Wake Forest and North Carolina offered me a scholarship after camp. I'm currently sitting on nine offers. Now I'm just getting bigger and stronger."

"I'm working on getting my weight up," he continued. "Right now I'm about 6'1, 160. I have narrowed my final two to Wisconsin and Wake Forest and I plan on redshirting, but I want to be 180 when I start playing."

Johnson discussed his final two schools with DeaconSports. "Wisconsin, out of all the schools offering, they have shown the most interest," he said. "Coach Cooks, their DB coach, has been recruiting me. I like the environment. Both schools have prestigious football programs. I like the feel of the coaches and each school has a great opportunity to play. At Wake Forest, it's a family school there. It's about 5,000 kids up there and I have a good relationship with Coach Lambert and Coach Billings and talked to Coach Grobe recently on the phone for about 35 minutes. Michael Campanaro, one of my best friends, is going to Wake."

According to Johnson, he plans to make a decision very soon. "I definitely want to get it done definitely soon," he said. "I want to do it in the next week or two if I can. I want to get ready for my high school season."

Although Johnson would like to decide soon, he may work in additional visits before deciding. "It's so close right now," he said. "I'm thinking about visiting both schools again but I don't know. I want to see the schools with some of the kids around. I've visited both already and I've been to Wake Forest about three times. I went to Wisconsin two weeks ago. It's a really tough decision."

Stay tuned to DeaconSports in the coming weeks for more on Johnson's decision.
