Summers Holds WFU Offer

The Wake Forest coaching staff would like to add multiple offensive linemen to their 2010 class. One name to keep an eye on is 6'4, 310-pound guard Colin Summers out of Broughton High School in Raleigh. Summers recently camped at Wake and proved himself worthy of a Demon Deacon offer. DeaconSports talked with Summers about his summer and recruitment.

Colin Summers has been a busy man this summer. The talented offensive lineman has been hitting the camp circuit hard and earning offers along the way.

"My summer has been dominated by football camps," said Summers. "That is fine with me. I have been working hard to get my name out there. I didn't really get recruited during the season last year. So far, things have been going great this summer and the hard work is paying off. I camped at Wake, Virginia, East Carolina, Clemson, Duke, and Elon. I have offers now from Wake, Duke,East Carolina and Elon. I feel that Clemson and Virginia are close to offering as well."

Summers did not have an offer going into Wake's one day camp a few weeks ago but he impressed the staff and earned an offer from the Demon Deacons.

"The Wake one day camp went very well. My goal was to show the coaches I am a hard worker and a very coachable player. I think I showed Coach Lobo that I am the type of player and person he wants. It paid off with an offer."

Summers is a very polite young man off the field but on it he displays great competitiveness and even a bit of a mean streak.

"I'm a very nice guy off the field but when I'm playing I want to get after it. It is just kind of natural for me. I am very competitive."

Despite multiple Division 1 schools showing interest, Summers feels like it is going to come down to three schools for his services. "To be honest, I really think it's going to come down to Wake, Duke, and Virginia. Those schools have good football programs as well as high academics. Education is very important to me and my family."

Summers is looking forward to his senior season at Broughton High School and would like to get his recruitment wrapped up before the start of the season.

"I want to get it done before the season starts. If not that is OK but I would really liked to get it off my shoulders and focus on my high school team."
