Barksdale Has Productive Summer

C.J. Barksdale wrapped up his summer last week in Orlando by having a very good showing at the AAU Nationals. DeaconSports spoke with Barksdale about his play this summer as well as new developments in his recruitment.

C.J. Barksdale has established himself as one of the premiere players in the class of 2011. The hard working forward had a lot of success this summer and is looking forward to his junior season at George Washington High School.

"The summer was fine," said Barksdale. "I had a lot of fun this summer which is the main thing. I think I played well this summer."

Last week at AAU Nationals, Barksdale had multiple 20+ point games and consistently hit the boards hard.

"Last week went good. It was my first time playing in Nationals and I had a lot of fun. I think I played good but could have done even better."

During the Nationals, Barksdale seemed to really come alive his last four games of the event.

"I wasn't getting a lot of touches early in the week. Our coach told everyone to get me the ball and that I could be a lot more than a good rebounder and defensive player. From then on I started to dominate down low and we won three straight games."

Barksdale has been getting a lot of interest from Division I schools and now three new schools have jumped into his recruitment.

"Villanova, Oklahoma, and VCU are interested now. Of course, I am still hearing from Wake Forest, Virginia Tech, Virginia, Florida, Maryland, and UNC."

Does anyone stick out for the talented junior? "Wake Forest sticks out right now but they haven't officially offered yet. But I am keeping my options open."

Now that summer is winding down, Barksdale is focusing on getting ready for his high school season. "I'm just going to keep working hard and get stronger. I am going to keep working on my entire game and try to have a better season this year than I had last year."

Barksdale hopes to make a decision by the end of his high school season. He also indicated he hopes to visit Wake Forest again later this month.
