Elevated Security Measures at Joel Coliseum

In the wake of the recent change in the national terror-alert status, fans attending events at Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum will encounter additional security measures that will supplement those already in place. Those new measures will be in effect when the arena hosts the Wake Forest-Duke basketball game on Thursday, February 13. Coliseum and Wake Forest officials encourage fans attending the game to arrive early to avoid entrance delays.

Bailey Howard, Complex Security Coordinator said, "We have worked to strengthen our existing security procedures. The nation's alert level has necessitated an increased awareness of security issues and the implementation of additional measures to maintain a safe environment for everyone".

Some of the measures will be apparent to guests such as increased officers and security personnel. Backpack and over-sized bags will not be permitted into the facility. Small bags and personal articles will be subject to search at entry gates.

Bucky Dame, Coliseum Director said, "We encourage people to bring just what they need to enjoy the events. We don't expect any inconveniences as a result, but we do ask for everyone's cooperation. The new standards are being put in place to strengthen already existing policies for protection of fans, athletes and employees".
