Deacons Grab First 2011 Commitment

Wake Forest picked up their first commitment of the 2011 football recruiting class this past week when offensive lineman Cody Preble committed to the Demon Deacons. A 6'5, 280 pound junior, Preble was offered a scholarship from the Deacon staff a week ago and immediately jumped on the opportunity to be a part of the Wake Forest program.

"It is the right place for him and where he wanted to be," Cody Preble's father, Tim, said. "He really liked Wake and seeing how it worked out, he decided that's where he wanted to be. He liked the smaller school, the stadium right there by campus. He likes the North Carolina area. It's only 10 hours away and he'll play in Atlanta, Miami, and Tallahassee. It really was a process that I thought was going to be long and drawn out and everything came into place. He loved Coach McCartney ,his recruiting coordinator."

Although Preble made an early commitment to Wake Forest, it was not without a lot of thought and contemplation. "We made a list of five favorite schools before things started and it was Wake, Missouri, Central Florida, Duke, and Ole Miss." After putting together pro and con lists, meeting some of the coaches at the respective schools, and discussing his decision with his family, Cody Preble decided to be a Demon Deacon.

"We were looking at one of the academics ranking lists and Wake Forest is virtually a top five academic school in the country in terms of schools who offer football scholarships," Tim Preble said. "The list of pros for Wake, well, we got tired of writing them down. The cons – there were none. He loved everything about the school and we're excited about it."

Mr. Preble noted that Cody is set on Wake and does not want to make visits to other schools. "I told Coach Lobo that Cody does not want to see any other recruiters," he said. "We're going the 13th for junior day at Wake and he will take his official visit to Wake. He wants to do that for a football game, probably during his bye week. He will not take his other four visits to other schools."

With his college decision out of the way, the 6'5 right tackle can now focus on his senior season and leading Park Vista to a successful 2010 season. "He wanted to get something done early," Mr. Preble said. "He wanted it before the season but didn't know it would be this soon. His team has a good chance at going far in the playoffs and he didn't want to be distracted."

"He really is a good kid and like most linemen is about the team," said Mr. Preble who also described Cody as "mean on the field. He's also very well coached and comes from a great program and great system which will help him going into Wake."

Preble, who is friends with current Demon Deacon commitment Eddie Sullivan, also received an offer from Maryland and interest from Ole Miss, Duke, Central Florida, and others before choosing Wake Forest.
