"Last season we were really together as one," said Good Counsel quarterback Zachary Dancel. "We had a lot of really good seniors on the team and we wanted to get the title bad for them."
Dancel played a big part in the team's success last season. He passed for 1.350 yards and 11 touchdowns on just 125 attempts. Dancel also had 350 yards rushing and 6 touchdowns. But to see how valuable Dancel was, you have to look outside the numbers.
"By the end of the season I was calling the plays at the line of scrimmage. I had three plays to chose from and based on what I saw from the defense, I called the play I thought would be successful."
Dancel prides himself on being the leader of the offense. "My job is to go out there and be a leader. I think I read defenses well and I get the team in the right play. I also am able to extend plays with my feet and run when necessary."
On the recruiting front, Dancel is getting a lot of interest from Division 1 schools. "I have been invited to spring games at Maryland, Arkansas, Georgia, UConn, and Louisville. I am also hearing from Pitt, Richmond, and William & Mary. I plan on going to some camps this summer but I am not sure which ones yet. I will be at Wake's camp for sure though."
Dancel knows some of the current players at Wake Forest and is very interested in the Demon Deacon program. "I have a lot of interest in Wake. Kevin Johnson is one of my best friends and he is going there. I know Wake Forest offers a great education. I also like the spread offense that they run."
