Wake On Dixon's Radar

Clearwater (FL) Countryside cornerback Alex Dixon has a dozen scholarship offers and doesn't seem too anxious to narrow his list in the coming weeks. Dixon spoke with DeaconSports regarding his recruitment.

Of course, when it comes to the recruiting process anything can happen and everything can change in the blink of an eye. It seems as though Alex Dixon is content to let things play out at a leisurely pace, however. That means breaking news stories might be few and far between, but it also means coaches will have plenty of opportunities to make their case.

Dixon isn't sure if he will be taking trips or attending camps this summer, as he has to focus on getting some academic work done during that time period.

"I don't really know yet. I might just be taking a summer school class. I've got to work around that," Dixon said. "That's gonna last the whole summer."

Even if Dixon isn't able to get on the road much he is planning on keeping in touch with coaches one way or another.

"I've been keeping in touch with a lot of colleges. The one I'm talking to the most is probably North Carolina," he confessed. "I'm still open and still interested in a lot of schools but those are probably the coaches that have been coming down here the most. That's mostly what it is. They've just been down here."

While the Tar Heels have obviously made Dixon a high priority another school from North Carolina isn't giving up without a fight. The Deacs are right in the thick of things.

"I just talked to coach (Steve) Russ from Wake Forest for a while. I'm really cool with him. They're on my radar. They've got a good defense and they're known for having corners that leave and go to the pros. They've got good academics too."

Dixon said he would like to take a trip to Winston-Salem but he hasn't planned any of his visits yet. He said he will set things up after the spring. "I want to take some officials but I'm going to wait until after the season to [visit]," he said.
