Wake Showing Interest In Gardener

While the Demon Deacons have not yet offered a scholarship to Texas receiver Quentin Gardener, they are showing a lot of interest. DeaconSports spoke with Gardener for the latest.

It would not come as any surprise if Wake decided to offer Quentin Gardener, a wide receiver from the talent-rich state of Texas. After all, the 6-1, 180-pound prospect can boast of offers from Arizona State, Iowa, Iowa State, Colorado, Colorado State and Minnesota. That's not too shabby for someone that hasn't enjoyed the spotlight some others have been in.

"The Colorado State offer I got around last week," he said. "A couple of weeks ago I got Minnesota."

Contrary to some reports elsewhere, Gardener told DeaconSports that Wake Forest has not offered him a scholarship.

"I've spoken to them though," he said of Wake. "That was maybe two and a half weeks ago. They came to our practice and we talked over the phone too. They said they'll be back down to watch me practice and that they liked me. That's mostly it for now."

Gardener said Wake Forest is a school he would be interested in if they decide to offer him a scholarship. That said, two other schools that have not offered are his favorites for now -- Oklahoma State and Texas A&M.

Plenty can change between now and decision time, however, as Gardener plans on waiting to make his decision until after he takes some official visits. He does not have any summer plans at this point.

Denton (TX) Guyer has made great strides recently as a high school football program and that's one of the reasons coaches found out about Gardener early.

"I think we sent my film out to a couple of schools and a couple came out to practice, but a lot of schools just wanted to see what kind of talent we had. I'm pretty sure they heard about some of our players, since we have a lot of Division I guys."
