CP3 Camp Spotlight: Naadir Tharpe

One of the better performers at the CP3 Elite Camp last weekend was 2011 lead guard Naadir Tharpe. Tharpe showed a variety of skills including great vision, a nice shooting touch, and good leadership qualities. DeaconSports caught up with Tharpe during camp to get his thoughts.

When watching Naadir Tharpe last weekend, it is easy to see why a lot of college coaches like him. Tharpe looked like a true point guard. He seemed to always make the right play, be it setting up a teammate or taking the open jumper. Tharpe also showed a nice first step and good ability to get to the rack.

DeaconSports: How has camp been?
Naadir Tharpe: "This is a great experience for me being around a point guard like Chris Paul. I've learned a lot of things to add to my game."

DS: Last weekend you were at Pangos camp and was selected to the Top 20 game. How was that experience?
NT: "Pangos was good. There were a lot of other top guards I got to play against. I just went at them and showed that I could compete. It was a good experience."

DS: How is AAU going so far?
NT: "I have only played in 2 tournaments with my team so far but I played well in both of them. The team is doing real well. We have great players on our team like Alex Murphy."

DS: Since opening your recruitment back up, who are you hearing from?
NT: "Wake Forest, N.C. State, Charlotte, Oklahoma, Indiana, Rutgers, Seton Hall, Boston College, Miami."

DS: Have you talked to the new coach at Wake yet?
NT: "I haven't had a chance to talk to the new staff yet but I spoke to Coach Battle. He is my main recruiter from Wake."

DS: Do you have a timetable for a decision?
NT: "Not really. I might let it carry over into the spring."
