Harrell Takes Wake, Recruiting

Wake Forest has not yet offered a scholarship to rising senior linebacker Anthony Harrell, but the Deacons are clearly interested.

Not long ago the 6-3, 215-pound linebacker from Tampa (Fla.) Freedom was in North Carolina visiting Wake Forest and by all accounts the trip went very well. Wake Forest still has not offered Anthony Harrell a scholarship, but that hasn't rubbed Harrell the wrong way and he's staying optimistic.

"They haven't offered me but they've showed a lot of interest," Harrell noted. "They were at my spring game and they like me a lot. Coach Steve Russ has recruited me and I know they've said they like me. I have him (Russ) on Facebook so I talk to him all over that.

"It's a good school with great academics and a good football team. They're in the ACC. The two main conferences I'd want to play in are the ACC and SEC."

Though Wake Forest has not offered Harrell more than two dozen schools have, so competition for him will be fierce. If the Deacons want to be seriously considered, and if they are serious about Harrell, they will need to offer soon before he starts to trim his list in the time leading up to official visits.

"Probably at the end of the summer, maybe even sooner, I'll have a top five," he said. "I don't have (that) right now."

Harrell hasn't been shy about his preference for the University of Florida. The Gators, however, like the Deacons, have not yet offered Harrell. The SEC school has been showing some interest and Harrell will get his chance to work out in front of the Florida coaches at their school's Friday Night Lights on July 23.
