"[Saturday,] we were watching our girls play and my dad brought his portable TV and after seeing Wake win [against N.C. State,] I was real pumped up," Hendley said. "That game against Rocky Mount, we were on such a high. It was amazing." Hendley played an amazing game himself, scoring 20 and bringing down 12 boards. And, what's more amazing – with the win, Hendley and Lee County have made it all the way to the 4-A finals.
And Saturday night, Lee County will continue to do what they have done all season long. "We're going to do the same things we've focused on all year," Hendley noted. "We're a defensive minded team. We're not going to change our gameplan, we're just going to do the things we do and hopefully get the win"
Hendley, who averaged 15 points and seven rebounds this season, will hit the floor with his Lee County teammates to play in the state championship at 7:30 pm at the Dean Smith Center in Chapel Hill.
DeaconSports will be in Chapel Hill Saturday night for photos and a story of Hendley's quest for a championship.
