Prep OT holds WSU offer, visits Pullman

AMONG THE OFFENSIVE LINE targets for the Cougs this recruiting cycle is a prep o-tackle from the other side of the country. He has a WSU offer in his back pocket and was out on the Palouse this past weekend on an official visit.

Unfortunately, attempts since Sunday to reach Darius Johnson, a 6-3, 250-pounder out of Orlando, Florida, have proved fruitless.

"He seemed like he really enjoyed himself. He liked the school and he liked the coaches," said Isiah Myers, one of the official visitors in town this weekend up from Florida.

"Oh, he loved it," said Darryl Monroe, a member of the Florida quartet who verbally committed to Washington State earlier this summer, who was in town this weekend on his official and who is also a teammate of Johnson's at Dr. Phillips High.

Johnson's offers include, in addition to Washington State, rides from Colorado State, Florida International and Marshall. He was reported to have verbally committed to Colorado State back in July but it is unclear if that still stands.

Johnson and Monroe have been key cogs to Dr. Phillips early season domination. DP has outscored its opponents 146-14, and are ranked No. 3 in the state in the 6A poll.

Dr. Phillips coach Dale Salapa named Johnson earlier this summer as among his players who excel both in the weight room and the classroom.
