Post visit, is Florida OT a crimson lean?

IN TALKING TO an Orlando area o-tackle prospect, one who has a crimson offer and who officially visited WSU recently, things appear promising for the Cougars. But recruiting can and does change quickly, and there might be a ways to go before his final decision. At the moment, though, one quote of his in particular shines a lot of light on his thinking…

First things first. Did Darius Johnson verbal to Washington State when he was in town?

"No sir. But I'm pretty sure I will," said Johnson.

The Cougs dropped one to USC while he was in town but Johnson said he liked what he saw from Washington State on the field, and particularly up front on the offensive line.

"I know they lost and everything, but I could see they have a lot of potential, most of their players are freshmen and sophomores," said Johnson. "…I could tell that next year, this team is going to be real good. They're going to have a lot experience from this year that they'll be bringing forward into next year.

"As far as the o-line goes, I was watching them, seeing how they move and get into their stance. And I was very, very impressed by everything that I saw."

PART OF THAT positive impression was because of WSU assistant Steve Morton.

"I really bonded with the o-line coach," said Johnson. "I went to his office and we talked about my o-line stance, how my school was on the o-line. We…talked about what they're doing on their o-line, some of the calls and things like that. And we talked about some of the awards past linemen under him have won, some of the ones who have gone onto the NFL that he's coached.

"They said they liked my frame and footwork. They liked the way I played, and said they could really use me on their offensive line."

JOHNSON IS LISTED anywhere from 6-3 to 6-5 by various media sources -- so how tall is he, and where does recruiting stand for him?

"I'm 6-5, 255. And I do want to see other campuses, I want to visit all my other choices and make sure I make the right choice. I've eliminated a lot of them. The ones I want to visit right now are Colorado State, Middle Tennessee and Marshall. And with Washington State, those are my top four right now," said Johnson.

Johnson was also reported to have verballed to Colorado State earlier this summer.

"I kinda realized I jumped the gun a little bit," said Johnson. "No one really told me later on in the season I would be getting more recognition and offers…but then my coaches told me I would be getting more offers and recognition after the season so I was like, ‘Man, I really jumped the gun.'"
