Two Cougs in trouble with law

PULLMAN -- A pair of Cougar footballers are in trouble with the law, having been arrested for an alleged marijuana grow.

Four people, all residents of the same apartment, were arrested early Sunday morning, said Pullman Police Commander Chris Tennant. Tennant confirmed "Roderick A Barrington JR" and "Jamal S.K. Barber", (listed on the WSU roster as Andre Barrington, and Jamal Atofau, respectively) were two of the people arrested. A KXLY report also identified Barrington and Atofau as the two Cougar footballers involved.

Tennant said officers found 38 plants and materials used for distribution in the apartment. The police log states all four were "Arrested for a Violation of the Uniformed Controlled Substance Act."

Barrington is academically ineligible this season, while Atofau has been getting some playing time after a position move to linebacker. He also plays on special teams, and has participated in five games this season with eight tackles.

WSU spokesperson Bill Stevens said Barrington and Atofau have been excluded from all team activities until further investigation and a gathering of the facts.
