"I have been getting letters from Oregon, Washington, Washington State, Colorado, UCLA, LSU, Nebraska and Vanderbilt," said Matthews. "I was invited, but wasn't able to attend LSU's junior day and the US Army Combine."
The Matthews are used to the recruiting process, having gone through it with Alex's older brother Jay.
"My brother Jay is up at Washington State," said Matthews. "They are a favorite of mine. I have been up there a couple times and met with the staff, I love the community and program."
The Cougar football camp is just one of many that Matthews will be attending this summer.
"I think I will be at the UCLA camp and a couple of the one days camps," said Matthews. "Oregon, Washington, Colorado and the Cal Elite 11."
Matthews family is from the south, which has him open to schools from all over the country. Including his childhood favorite, Texas.
The junior split time at quarterback last season but will be the full time starter this year.
"Right now I am just working on putting everything together," said Matthews. "I think that one of my best qualities is leadership, I enjoy getting out on the field and being with the guys."
