Hey Monson: They still play hoops at Wazzu!

WASHINGTON STATE SLEPT through the start of the second half, frittering away much of an 18-point halftime lead, but Klay Thompson led the charge back and the Cougs advanced to the second round in the NIT with a 85-74 win over Long Beach State.

After the Cougs took a 36-18 lead at the break, WSU saw that seemingly insurmountable lead cut to five points -- with plenty of time left in the second half -- before building it back to double digits.

Klay Thompson led the Cougs with 25 points. Faisal Aden poured in 19 points on 7-12 shooting and DeAngelo Casto chipped in 14 points and eight rebounds.

Late in the game, LBSU made it interesting, trimming the margin to single digits twice down the stretch, the first at 64-55, but Washington State used a 7-0 run over the space of just over a minute. Then WSU saw that 16-point lead cut in half before taking charge for the final time. Long Beach State never got closer than eight points the rest of the way. No. 2 seed WSU will play on Monday, playing host to Oklahoma State, a No. 3 seed.

CF.C will be back later with more coverage.
