WASHINGTON STATE CORNERBACK Marcus Trufant became the twelfth Cougar ever to be selected in the first round of the NFL draft when Seattle called his name Saturday.

The Seahawks chose the Tacoma native with the 11th pick overall of the draft. Draft gurus had unanimously forecast Trufant as a top 15 pick.

He'll join two former Cougar greats, defensive tackle Chad Eaton and center Robbie Tobeck, on the Seattle roster.

Viewers of today's draft coverage on ESPN didn't have to wait for his selection to realize Trufant had already crossed the line into NFL stardom. Minutes before Seattle picked him, Trufant appeared with Baltimore Raven Ray Lewis on an advertisement for EA Sports Madden 2004 football game.

Trufant's defensive teammate, Outland Trophy winner Rien Long, was selected by Tennessee in the 4th round with the 126th pick of the draft.

Trufant is WSU's 12th first-round pick since the NFL began the draft in the late 1930s. The other Round One Cougars are: Ryan Leaf, Mark Fields, Steve Broussard, Drew Bledsoe, Timm Rosenbach, Keith Millard, Jack Thompson, Ken Greene, Clancy Williams, Ed Barker and Ed Goddard.

Stay tuned all weekend to for continuing NFL draft coverage.
