Friday prospect parade draws entire WSU staff

PAUL WULFF AND his entire Washington State coaching staff will be in the Seattle area on Friday for the third annual Northwest Elite Football Camp, where more than 250 prospects from around the region will be put through the paces. Among the athletes signed up so far are quarterbacking notables Drew Austin of Graham-Kapowsin and Max Browne of Skyline.

A pair of known WSU targets in the upcoming recruiting cycle -- Ma'ne Manaea of Lakes High and Caleb Smith of Kentridge -- also are among those signed up.

As for the two QBs, Austin is a 6-2, 190-pound senior-to-be who threw for 29 TDs and more than 3,000 yards last season. He's drawing interest from the Pac-12's Northwest schools and plans to camp at WSU later this month. Browne is a 6-5, 196-pound junior-to-be who was named first-team Class 4A all-state last season by

Some of the other notables include Wenatchee's Connor Black, Seattle's Sam Flor and Federal Way's Uso Olve.

The Northwest Elite Football Camp, founded by former WSU All-American Jason Gesser, is unlike any other camp in the nation in that coaches from 11 different universities will be on hand to instruct the campers.

This will be Gesser's final camp as the director. He announced on last week that he's accepting a position at WSU starting on Aug. 1.

IN ADDITION TO receiving personal instruction from Wulff and the rest of the WSU staff, campers will be learning from head coaches Robb Akey of Idaho, Nigel Burton of Portland State and Blaine Bennett of Central Washington, plus many of their assistants as well as assistants from FCS National Champion Eastern Washington, Boise State, Montana, Idaho State, Western Oregon, University of Puget Sound and Pacific University.

The camp takes place this Friday, June 10, at Skyline High in Sammamish. Registration is at 4 pm, with the camp running from 5-8:45 p.m. and will be there covering the event. For more information, or to register. head to

The camp is designed for high school players at all positions. The cost is $65 for pre-registered campers ($80 for walk ups, if space remains available.
