Cali 'backer with WSU offer plays big

HE'S OFTEN HEARD that he's a little too small to be a top linebacker. And even though he has a smattering of Pac-12 offers, including one from the Cougs, he's still hearing it from some other college coaches. Yet he continues to make plays, logging triple digit tackles as a junior.

Reshawn Hooker could be a linebacker at the next level -- or he could be a strong safety.

As a junior, Hooker had 105 tackles, 2 fumble recoveries, and 4 sacks.

The Cougs, along with Arizona, ASU and Colorado have offered along with several other schools.

Other schools, like USC and UCLA, said Hooker, seem to have concerns about his size – 6-foot-2 and 200 pounds.

Hooker will be at UCLA and USC this weekend for camp events, and hopes to allay those concerns and earn still more offers.

Hooker's skill set would seem a good fit for the Cougs on defense but WSU might have some work to do on the recruiting front. He said distance could play a role, with a preference to stay closer to California, although he said the Evergreen State is within his geographical area of preference.

Hooker said he doesn't plan on making a decision until after the season.

"Schools like that I play smart and fast, get to the ball, that I hit people hard," said Hooker. "They've said they like how I read the offense and know where I'm supposed to be and that I get there quickly."
