Five walk-ons get early WSU start

A QUINTET OF preferred walk-ons have enrolled and started summer courses at Washington State, thereby enabling them to get an early start on their college education and to begin voluntary workouts with the team.

CF.C published a story last week about walk-on Hawaii S Cyrus Coen. Four more walk-ons are joining him in arriving early to WSU. They are:

Gunnar Eklund, a 6-6, 285-pound OL out of Lake Stevens. He was named first team WesCo 4A North on both the offensive and defensive lines as a 2010 senior by the Seattle Times. He was also named all-area first-team offense and second-team defense by the Everett Herald.

OL Sam Shirley out of Juanita is a 6-3, 285-pound offensive lineman who was named second team offense in KingCo 3A/2A by the Seattle Times this past year.

WR Brock Ruelke, (6-2, 185) out of Honolulu's Kamehameha Secondary is said to have quick moves off the press. He had 14 catches for 233 yards and three touchdowns in six games as a senior.

Kruger Story is a 5-9, 175-pound running back out Heritage Christian in California. He was named the Outstanding Offensive Player and first team RB in the Bay Valley Athletic League in 2010. He averaged 7.09 ypc rushing, with 1,517 hashes and 22 TDs in 11 games.

Note: CF.C has also been tracking the early arrivals for the scholarship players, that story is scheduled for publication later on Tuesday.
