14 more Cougs get early start at WSU!

IT'S BECOMING STANDARD operating procedure under Paul Wulff -- having 20-plus incoming freshmen and first year Cougs enroll early at Washington State over the summer, get a head start on their college education and take part in valuable, voluntary offseason workouts with the team. With 21 Cougs from the incoming class now on campus and taking classes, the benefits are nothing short of "huge."

With an unprecedented seven having already enrolled at Wazzu in January, another 14 from the 2011 class have arrived on campus and are now taking classes. They are:

QB Cody Clements
DT David Davis
OG Matt Goetz
TE Max Hersey
RB Marcus Mason
LB Logan Mayes
DL Darryl Paulo
S Tana Pritchard
LB Chester Sua
TE Mansel Simmons
DT T.J. Poloai
CB Spencer Waseem
DE Lenard Williams
WR Dominique Williams

WSU recruiting coordinator and tight ends coach Rich Rasmussen says it's a big, big deal.

"It's huge for us -- huge," said Rasmussen. "To have that many incoming freshmen and first year Cougars on campus, to get themselves acclimated and comfortable before we start fall camp, to have them be able to get some classes under their belts. That's instrumental. It's hugely beneficial, way before fall camp, and not only to them individually but for us as a program.

"All of those guys collectively, to take care of business academically and to get here early in the summer, it speaks to the level of kid we brought in -- guys with character who are strong football players. By the way, here's something impressive, you've got a guy like Tana Pritchard who already has junior status academically. He's already got an AA degree in hand as well as having graduated from high school."

The latest influx of 14 leaves six more who could arrive "on time" in August when fall camp gets underway on Aug. 7. They are WR/ATH Rahmel Dockery, OL Wendell Taiese, OL Alex Mitchell, DE Demetrius Cherry, DE Niko Aumua and ATH Brock Lutes. One from that group could delay enrollment – WSU was able to count one from the January enrollees towards last year's class since they had 24 initials then.

Two others, DE Eli Edwards and S Max Gama, are expected to grayshirt and arrive in January.

The seven 2011 class members arriving this past January and having already gone through spring ball and their first semester at Washington State are: WR Isiah Myers, DE Xavier Cooper, DE Ian Knight, LB Darryl Monroe, OT Rico Forbes, C Taylor Meighen and WR Henry Eaddy.
