Future Coug QB ranks among West's best

FUTURE COUG QB Austin Apodaca is known for his strong arm, but it's his overall quarterbacking skills that have placed him in the Top 10 of Scout.com's list of the West's top passers in the 2012 recruiting cycle.

1. Bart Houston
Concord (Calif.) De La Salle- Committed to Wisconsin
All he does is win- 27-straight wins as the quarterback for the two-time defending Open Division champs in California.

2. Connor Brewer
Scottsdale (Ariz.) Chaparral- Committed to Texas
And all Brewer does is win too, having led Chaparral to a pair of state titles the last two seasons as well.

3.Tanner Mangum
Eagle (Idaho)- Committed to BYU
No one improved their stock at quarterback this spring and summer like Mangum, who took over the month of July.

4.Zach Kline
Danville (Calif.) San Ramon Valley- Committed to California
Strong arm and built like a linebacker and is a great athlete.

5. Jeff Lindquist
Mercer Island (Wash.)- Committed to Washington
Chose the hometown Huskies, Lindquist is one of the most polished quarterbacks in the country.

6.Shane Dillon
El Cajon (Calif.) Christian- Committed to Colorado
The Elite 11 selection continues to improve and has great potential..

7. Travis Wilson
San Clemente (Calif.)- Committed to Utah
The tallest quarterback in the West did a fine job in his first year as the Tritons' starter.

8. Brent Vanderveen
Arroyo Grande (Calif.)- Committed to Oregon State
Playing on the Central Coast of California, some schools didn't know about Vanderveen, but Mike Riley and Bobby Petrino sure did.

9. Austin Apodaca
Longmont (Colo.) Silver Creek- Committed to Washington State
Not the thickest quarterback in the region but certainly has a big arm.

10.Nathan Sudfeld
Modesto (Calif.) Christian- Committed to Arizona
Took over for the reigning state player of the year and had a fine season, and his best football is still ahead of him.

Next 5 (11-15)
11. Mike Baker, Fresno (Calif.) Central
12. Grant Rohach, Moorpark (Calif.)- Committed to Iowa State
13. Marc Evans, Ventura (Calif.) St. Bonaventure
14. Tyler Ferguson, Bakersfield (Calif.) Ridgeview
15. Matt Morin, Temecula (Calif.) Chaparral- Committed to San Diego State

1. Jake Rodrigues
Rocklin (Calif.) Whitney- Committed to Oregon
Passed for over 2,000 yards and ran for 1,000+, with 21 touchdowns threw the air and 21 on the ground.

2. Cyler Miles
Denver (Colo.) Mullen- Committed to Washington
One of two Husky commits at quarterback, helped lead Mullen to an unbeaten state championship a year ago.

3. Jeff Lockie
Danville (Calif.) Monte Vista- Committed to Oregon
Was all-league over Houston and Kline in his first year as the starter for the Mustangs.

4. Tyler Stewart
Chatsworth (Calif.) Sierra Canyon
Good mobility and good size, and very productive through the air.

5. Malik Watson
Pittsburg (Calif.)
When placed as the starter for the Pirates, team took off.  Has more upside than any other dual-threat guy in the region.

National Recruiting Analyst and West Regional Manager Brandon Huffman, Southwest Recruiting Analyst Jason Jewell and Northwest Recruiting Analyst Jake Worthen contributed to these rankings.
