Thompson's father and advisor, former NBA star Mychal Thompson, said Wednesday that Klay's agent is exploring playing opportunities for Thompson in Spain, France and Italy if the NBA lockout continues.
"Those are the top leagues … they have very good teams, very good situations over there," Mychal Thompson said.
The elder Thompson added, "His game translates perfect into what the Euros like – guys who can shoot."
Many current and prospective NBA players have expressed interest in playing in Europe as long as their contracts permit them to leave if the lockout ends.
Klay Thompson, the Cougar shooting guard who led the Pacific-10 Conference in scoring last season, was drafted 11th overall by Golden State. He chose to pass up his senior season with Wazzu, who plays in a tournament in Anaheim in November near the Thompsons' home.
"He said his biggest fear is he'll be sitting here watching the Cougs play in Anaheim," Mychal Thompson said half-jokingly. "They're coming in November, right? He loves his teammates, but he doesn't want to be in the stands watching them play."
Thompson has been playing regularly in pick-up games with NBA players like his childhood hero, Kobe Bryant, as well as the likes of Kevin Love, Austin Daye, James Harden and Nick Young.
"L.A.'s the hotbed for NBA players walking around in the summer, working out. So he's in a good situation out here. Great competition," Mychal Thompson said.
Thompson's agent is Bill Duffy – "One of the best," Mychal said. Duffy represents such NBA players as Steve Nash, Rajon Rondo, Baron Davis and Greg Oden.
