NFL Cougar Highlights: Week One

LEGENDARY COUGAR kicker Jason Hanson helped his Detroit Lions secure an opening day victory on Sunday and added his name—yet again—to the NFL record book simply by stepping on the field.

Hanson joined Hall of Famers Jackie Slater and Darrell Green as the only players to have played 20 years for the teams that drafted them. In addition, it was his 296th game as a Lion, tying former Oiler/Titan Bruce Matthews for most by a player with one club.

Here's how NFL Cougars performed in week one:

Hamza Abdullah, S, Arizona, 7th season: No recorded stats in the Cardinals' 28-21 win against Carolina.

Husain Abdullah, S, Minnesota, 4th season: Posted six solo tackles in the Vikings' 24-17 fall to San Diego.

Erik Coleman, S, Detroit, 8th season: No recorded stats for the Spokane native in the Lions' defeat of Tampa Bay.

Jed Collins, FB, New Orleans, 2nd season : Started at fullback, but had no carries. Returned a kick-off seven yards in the Saints 48-34 loss to Green Bay on Thursday.

Eric Frampton, S, Minnesota, 5th season: Tallied three special teams stops in the Vikings' loss to the Chargers.

Brandon Gibson, WR, St. Louis, 3rd season: The Puyallup native caught three passes for 50 yards in the Rams' 31-13 fall to Philadelphia.

Jason Hanson, K, Detroit, 20th season: The Spokane native was perfect on both field goal attempts (long of 28) and three extra-points in the Lions' 27-20 win against the Buccaneers.

Jerome Harrison, RB, Detroit, 6th season: Ran the ball eight times for 27 yards in the Lions' victory against the Bucs.

Jason Hill, WR, Jacksonville, 5th season :Caught four passes for 53 yards in the Jaguars' 16-14 defeat of Tennessee.

Chris Ivory, RB, New Orleans, 2nd season :Did not play; on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list due to a slow recovery from off-season foot and sports hernia surgery.

Rian Lindell, K, Buffalo, 12th season: The Vancouver, Wash. native was perfect on two field goal tries (long of 38) and 5 extra-points in the Bills' 41-7 drubbing of Kansas City.

Ropati Pitoitua, DE, New York Jets, 3rd season: Posted one solo tackle in the Jets' 27-24 defeat of Dallas.

Marcus Trufant, DB, Seattle, 9th season: The Tacoma native recorded two solo tackles in the Seahawks' 33-17 loss to San Francisco.

Zack Williams, G, Carolina, rookie: Did not play; on injured reserve (ACL).
