"It was amazing, that's the only way to put it," said Apodaca about his visit to WSU. "I loved everything about it, I can't wait to get up there for good."
Apodaca is ranked by Scout.com among the Top 10 QB prospects in the West this recruiting cycle.
Apodaca was one of four who tripped officially to Wazzu this weekend – DT Maurice Bennett, DE Nate Iese, OT/DL Fernando Villanueva. Three of those four (Apodaca, Bennett, Villanueva) are now verbally committed to WSU.
"It was hot at the game and ‘Big Mo' (Bennett), even he was hot. He was saying, ‘Let's go get some food and water and get in the shade or something,' and I was like ‘Hey, come on, you're from Mississippi! You're hot?!.' He's great," laughed Apodaca.
The action on the football field made it all worthwhile though, he said.
"The game was absolutely incredible, they just killed UNLV. it was just rabid out there, the Cougars just came out to play, it was impressive, and they're going to do some good things this year… Marshall Lobbestael did such a great job. They ran it all on point and operated as a unit, it was very impressive," said Apodaca.
Apodaca got in some quality time with Paul Wulff and Todd Sturdy, too.
"With coach Wulff, we talked about how we've got a really got a good class going," said Apodaca, who proceeded to rattle off the names on the 2012 WSU commit list while he sat in the airport waiting for his flight on Sunday. "With coach Sturdy, we've been talking regularly for a long time, I call him up a lot. It was awesome, we watched some film from the Idaho state game but also just talked about life, my season and everything about Washington State."
Apodaca was hosted by Jeff Tuel and Cody Clements, and gave both sterling marks.
"They're great, great guys," he said. "With Jeff we talked about what life is like at Washington State and how much things have changed. A couple years ago things weren't a challenge, some of the guys weren't buying in, but now it's completely different. They're all buying in and you're seeing the result. We hung out like a bunch of college kids, (Cody) just showed us the ropes of what college life was about, and the town was going crazy that night before the game.
"When you're there, it's amazing just how passionate how everyone is about the Cougar program. We got there and there were already tons of RVs already there and set up. The people at Washington State are great, so incredibly nice and outgoing… you would have to try really, really, really hard not to fit in over there, everyone is so welcoming."
Note: Look for upcoming visit reports on Iese and Bennett on CF.C, as soon as we hear back from them.
