NFL Cougar Highlights: Week Three

IT WAS a perfect day for the two—and most veteran—Washington State alums in the NFL, as Cougar kicking greats Jason Hanson and Rian Lindell booted game-winning field goals for Detroit and Buffalo, respectively.

Those clutch kicks kept their clubs—unlikely as it may seem—in the small ranks of the undefeated in this young NFL season. Only Green Bay and Washington, who play on Monday night, accompany the Bills and Lions as teams without a loss.

Here's how all of the NFL Cougars performed in week three:

Hamza Abdullah, S, Arizona, 7th season: No recorded stats in the Cardinals 13-10 loss to Seattle.

Husain Abdullah, S, Minnesota, 4th season: Tallied three tackles (2 solo) in the Vikings' 26-23 overtime loss to Detroit.

Erik Coleman, S, Detroit, 8th season: No recorded stats for the Spokane native in the Lions' 26-23 win against Minnesota.

Jed Collins, FB, New Orleans, 3rd season :Posted one special teams tackle in the Saints' 40-33 victory against Houston.

Eric Frampton, S, Minnesota, 5th season: No recorded stats from the Vikings loss to the Lions.

Brandon Gibson, WR, St. Louis, 3rd season: The Puyallup native caught five passes for 55 yards—including a 34-yard touchdown reception—in the Rams' 37-7 fall to Baltimore.

Jason Hanson, K, Detroit, 20th season: The Spokane native booted the game winning field goal in overtime as the Lions beat Minnesota, 26-23. Hanson was perfect on both PATs and four field goals, including a 50 yarder. He was coming off a week two performance that earned him NFC special teams player of the week honors.

Jerome Harrison, RB, Detroit, 6th season: Carried the ball twice for 8 yards and caught one pass for another 3 in the Lions' win against the Vikings. The Lions netted just 20 yards rushing.

Jason Hill, WR, Jacksonville, 5th season : Saw limited action due to a nagging hip injury, catching one pass for 5 yards in the Jags' 16-10 loss to Carolina.

Chris Ivory, RB, New Orleans, 2nd season :Did not play; on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list due to a slow recovery from off-season foot and sports hernia surgery.

Rian Lindell, K, Buffalo, 12th season: The Vancouver, Wash. native was perfect on four extra-point attempts and 2 field goals—including the game winning kick as time expired—in the Bills' 27-24 upset of the Boston Patriots.

Ropati Pitoitua, DE, New York Jets, 3rd season: Credited with one tackle assist in the Jets' 34-24 loss to Oakland.

Marcus Trufant, DB, Seattle, 9th season: The Tacoma native picked off his first pass of the season and posted six solo tackles in the Seahawks' 13-10 victory against Arizona.

Zack Williams, G, Carolina, rookie: Did not play; on injured reserve (ACL).
