NFL Cougar Highlights: Week Seventeen

THE NEW ORLEANS Saints have been well stocked with Washington State alums over the years—Mark Fields, Brian Forde, Steve Gleason, Scott Peuller and Rueben Mayes come quickly to mind—and the two Cougs currently on the Big Easy roster contributed mightily to that legacy on Sunday.

Fullback Jed Collins and running back Chris Ivory both scored in the Saints' regular season finale, a 45-17 victory over Carolina—Ivory on a nifty 35-yard run and Collins on a one-yard reception with nary a Panther defender in sight.

The season continues for both with the playoff-bound Saints, as it does for Cougar alum Jason Hanson and his Detroit Lions.

Here's how all of the NFL Cougars performed in week 17:

Hamza Abdullah, S, Arizona, 7th season: Assisted on one special teams tackle in the Cardinals' 23-20 overtime victory against Seattle.

Husain Abdullah, S, Minnesota, 4th season: Did not play; placed on injured reserve (concussion) and out for the remainder of the season.

Erik Coleman, S, Detroit, 8th season: Did not play; out for the season on injured reserve with an ankle injury.

Brandon Gibson, WR, St. Louis, 3rd season: The Puyallup native caught one pass for 21 yards in the Rams' 34-27 loss to San Francisco.

Jason Hanson, K, Detroit, 20th season: The Spokane native connected on four extra-point attempts and one of 2 field goal tries in the Lions' 45-41 loss to Green Bay.

Jerome Harrison, RB, Detroit, 6th season: Did not play; placed on the club's reserve/non-football illness due to a brain tumor.
