BREAKING: Cougs add LB to 2012 class

WSU HAS LANDED a junior college linebacker to their 2012 recruiting class. Justin Sagote, a versatile 'backer with experience both inside and outside in the 3-4, tripped into Pullman last week and tells CF.C he's Washington State-bound over offers from Purdue and others.

Sagote (6-2, 225, 4.60) out of College of San Mateo made his verbal commitment this past weekend.

"I'm going to sign with Washington State, probably today. "When I got there, the people I was surrounded by, the people were great. The facilities were great, everything was like a family and that's what really made me want to commit there," said Justin Sagote.

LINEBACKER WAS ALREADY a position of need for the Cougars the 2013 recruiting cycle but it became even more of an immediate need earlier this offseason. Mike Leach dismissed Sekope Kaufusi and C.J. Mizell, the frontrunners to start at the two inside linebacker positions, earlier for violation of team rules. Sagote, who is scheduled to graduate in May with three years to play two, will be counted upon to help fill some of that void.

"They said they're going to play me either outside or inside (linebacker), they'll use me at both," said Sagote.

SAGOTE POSTED 39 tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss, two sacks and an interception for San Mateo while playing mainly as an outside linebacker this past season. As a freshman playing mainly on the inside, he logged 45 tackles, 10.5 tackles-for-loss, three sacks and one fumble recovery.

"The whole staff was great. Coach Leach, he's a really good coach. I really trust what they have going on in the program, and then coach Choate and all those coaches, they all made me feel at home," said Sagote.

Sagote had already officially visited Purdue and San Diego State and said following his WSU trip, he was calling an end to his recruitment.

"I come from a 3-4 defense so it fits for me, too, at Washington State. I guess personality-wise they liked that I'm a very quiet guy, but that my personality is different on the field. I'm quiet off the field but once I put on my helmet, I do a little talking out there," said Sagote.
