LA corner has Cougs on top

SIX YEARS PASSED, from 2006 to 2012, between Dorsey High products signing with the Cougs. If things stay the way are at present, Mike Leach could land back-to-back signees from the Los Angeles school next February. That's because a 2013 cornerback with a pair of Pac-12 offers has WSU as his leader.

Daquawn Brown (5-11, 165) holds offers from Washington State, Cal and San Jose State.

Washington State was the first program to extend an offer to Brown and the cornerback says that the Cougars are atop his list,'s Annabel Stephan reports.

"Washington State was my first offer and they are on the top of my board right now. I'm talking with coach Dennis Simmons, keeping them updated on what I'm doing weekly, in track, with weights and in class," he said.

Brown, who hails from the same high school as incoming Cougar linebacker Jeremiah Allison, was also recently offered by San Jose State and has plans to visit campus within the upcoming months.

"San Jose State is very high on my list right now. I'm going to take a trip down there in the fall. I don't really know much about them yet, but I'm interested," he said.

He also holds an offer from California and is hoping to take a visit over the summer. He had plans to attend Arizona State's Junior Day this past weekend, but had to cancel due to a track meet conflict.

"Arizona State is still a school I am interested in. I like the Sun Devils because of their defense. Their defensive coach is very interested in me and we talk a lot during the week," he said.

ELSEWHERE ON THE cornerback recruiting front, WSU has also offered a 2014 prospect. Edward Paris now holds five full rides, and he hasn't even completed his sophomore year of high school yet.

The 6-1, 190-pounder has a long wing span, with WSU, LSU, SMU, UCLA and Clemson the five who have offered.

THE DATABASE lists five 2013 prospects listed at corner who hold a Cougar offer.

All are out of California, and all are listed as at least 6-feet tall:

Chris Hawkins (6-0, 170) out of Rancho Cucamonga
Derek Babiash (6-1, 170) from Poway
Chris Seisay (6-2, 175) out of American Canyon
Daquawn Brown (6-0, 170) out of Dorsey
Steven Nelson (6-0, 185) from College of the Sequoias
