Texas DB has WSU ties, Mike Leach offer

HE HAS SPEED aplenty, and that led to a Cougar offer. But while he hails from Texas, both his parents went to Washington State. After he was offered by Mike Leach, he planned on surprising his mom with the news. But when she picked him up that day, she already knew. Indeed, as he climbed into the car, he noticed she was wearing a big smile and her Cougar gear.

John Schilleci's prep coach at Guyer High in Denton, Texas had let his mom know about the offer from Leach.

"I couldn't believe she already knew. I just shook my head," said Schilleci.

WSU AREA RECRUITER Eric Morris is running the point on Schilleci (6-0, 190) for the Cougars.

"He said they really liked my speed and how aggressive I was, how I always had a nose for the football. They said they want me to play safety and a little bit of corner, and that they've always liked the big, fast, aggressive defensive backs," said Schilleci.

SCHILLECI RAN A personal best in the 100 meters recently, clocking in at 10.43 to take first place in the event at the Guyer Relays according to DyeStat.

He said he regularly runs the 40 in the 4.4 range.

Schilleci said he plans on taking his time before making his college decision. The school he said he's hearing the most from in addition to Washington State is Leach's old school, Texas Tech.
