VERBAL: Massive OL goes crimson

WENATCHEE OFFENSIVE LINE prospect Cody O'Connell, all 6-feet-8 and 350 pounds of him, made a commitment to Washington State after his third unofficial visit to Pullman.

Wenatchee High's O'Connell had just left Wazzu today when he decided to place a call to Mike Leach.

"I've been thinking about it for a while," said O'Connell, who went to the Cougs' junior day, a spring practice and then was in Pullman again on Monday. "I was down there today and got another good look. I liked what I saw…I called coach Leach about it, he seemed really excited. I'm excited and kind of relieved.

"It was just everything about the school, I felt good there," he told CF.C.

THE 6-8 350-POUNDER had been a Washington State lean for some time and made his decision based off two important factors. He becomes the second known vernal commit for Mike Leach, joining Texas safety Trevor Walker.

"There were two things that shared equally," said O'Connell. "The first was the size of the campus and the town. The other was how close it was to home.

"They were happy about me making the decision, and I was happy with my decision."

O'Connell is planning on attending a Nike camp later this spring along with his Wenatchee teammates but will otherwise shut down his recruiting process.

"Well right now I am doing the SPARQ combine," said O'Connell. "I am going to help some guys on my team and other guys I know get recruited. Hopefully get some teammates to come play football with me."
