Cougs hitting California recruiting trail

THE RECRUITING TRAIL took Washington State coaches to Westlake Village, Calif. today, where a pair of student-athletes hold offers from Mike Leach. One is a 4-star rated outside linebacker who says he's been talking with the Cougar coaches for quite some time.

The May Evaluation period is in full swing for the Cougars and the Golden State is a top priority.

WSU defensive coordinator Mike Breske and area recruiter Dennis Simmons were at Oaks Christian High today, (about 40 miles west of Los Angeles,) said 4-star outside linebacker prospect Cameron Judge (6-2, 215). Both Judge and WR Francis Owusu hold WSU offers.

"They were at our school today, I've actually been talking to them quite a bit over (the past few months). Over the summer I'll talk more with them and see what they have to offer," said Judge.

Judge racked up 113 tackles, eight sacks, two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery as a junior, leading Oaks Christian Lions to the CIF-SS Northern Division finals in 2011.

'Washington State said like my athleticsm and the speed I play at," said Judge.

JUDGE SAYS ACADEMICS will be important and distance doesn't matter in his decision. The local school, however, does hold an edge.

"I guess UCLA would be standing out right now. I've just been to their campus more than any other school, it's close to where I live so that kind of gives them an advantage. But I haven't really seen (many college campuses). Later this summer when I get out to see other schools, we'll see what happens," said Judge.

Judge is rated four stars and the No. 24 prep OLB prospect in the nation by

  • In addition to Judge and Owusu, Oaks Christian has at least two other prospects who could potentially earn Pac-12 offers at some point this recruiting cycle, S Terry Johnson and OL Robert McGee.

  • They also have a pair of potential highly ranked 2014 prospects whom's Brandon Huffman is already keeping a close eye on – QB Brandon Dawkins and CB Malik Cyphers. And in the 2015 class, freshman Reno Rosene already checks in at 6-6, 300 -- he earned Freshman All-America honors this past season.
