Ogbonnia "Obo" Okoronkwo was offered by Mike Leach this past Wednesday.
"I know they like how I play, they like my speed," said the exceedingly polite Okoronkwo.
Having grown up in Texas, Okoronkwo knows all about Mike Leach. But he's also in the early stages of his information gathering, a process that figures to ramp up this summer.
"I like them a lot," he said of Washington State. "Right now, I'm just trying to do my own research on all the schools."
OKORONKWO PLAYED OUT of position for the most part at Alief Taylor High in 2011, primarily lining up at defensive tackle. But you wouldn't know it by his numbers.
He racked up 50 tackles and 11 sacks, with 13 tackles for loss. In his first year playing at the varsity level, he was named a First Team All-District (18-5A) defensive tackle.
Okoronkwo has a lot of room on his frame and could develop into a large defensive end at the next level. Or he could play the BUCK linebacker in a 3-4.
"Schools have talked to me about both. WSU has been talking to me about playing a stand up (BUCK)," said Okoronkwo, who plans to major in Pharmacy.
THE ONLY unofficial visit Okoronkwo has scheduled so far is a trip to Texas Tech the weekend of June 2.
Tech has been recruiting him strongly, as has Wake Forest and others. Still, Okoronkwo said he hasn't narrowed his list and has no favorites yet.
"I can't say right now who are my leaders," said Okoronkwo.
Purdue became the latest school to offer Okoronkwo, joining Washington State, Texas Tech, Utah, SMU and Wake Forest. Others in the mix include Oklahoma State and Houston.
