Offensive tackle prospect Sterling Korona out of San Antonio, Texas says the Cougars like, among other attributes, his strong hands.
"They talked about both my run blocking and pass blocking -- they like my height and aggressiveness in pass pro and getting separation. They said they like that I have really good hands and good feet, they really like the explosive power in my hands," said Korona.
KORONA, WHO RECENTLY measured in at 6-8, 255 at Reagan High, has four offers from Texas/Oklahoma schools among his total – Houston, Tulsa, SMU and UTSA to go along with full rides from Washington State and Duke.
Despite those offers from nearby schools, Korona said there's still a big draw to the thought of potentially playing at Washington State.
"I can definitely see it – WSU, I've got to keep in contact with them and keep working with them and eventually go up there, said Korona. "Coach Leach, he's a good guy, down to earth. He knows what his players need, whether to give them that little push or not… I think he's a great coach and has a lot of knowledge.
"I grew up watching him coach at Texas Tech, and he knows Texas football."
That doesn't mean the Cougs don't face tough competition for his commitment.
"Houston is a really good football school, and Duke is academically very good and they have great coaches," said Korona.
KORONA HAS PLANNED on making some more unofficial trips around the end of May but those, and especially a potential visit to the Palouse, are now likely to come later in the summer.
"I'm going to start focusing on offseason workouts, the transition between spring football and offseason work, right now. And then maybe later in the summer I'll head to some schools," said Korona.
RECENT STRENGTH numbers include a power clean of 245 pounds, a squat of 405 and bench press of 285 pounds.
"I think Mike Leach is going to do a lot better there and have a big improvement over last year," said Korona.
