4-star QB loves Leach but it may be too late

HOW LONG BEFORE 4-star quarterback prospect Troy Williams makes his decision? He narrowed his long list of suitors a week ago and then Mike Leach jumped into the mix. Cougfan.com talked with Williams about his upcoming travel plans and timetable for making a verbal pledge.

WSU offered him a scholarship just last week. And if the Cougs are going to pull off a major recruiting coup, it looks like they only have a few days to do it. Williams out of Harbor City, Calif., told CF.C he still plans to make his verbal commitment shortly after his trip to UW this weekend.

And while his visit plans could change before Thursday's scheduled unofficial to UW, he as of the moment has no plans to make a side trip out to Pullman when in the Evergreen State this weekend.

It's hard to imagine the 4-star QB out of Narbonne High would commit to the Cougs without taking an unofficial despite being in the state.

WILLIAMS HAD NOTHING but glowing things to say about the Cougs and Mike Leach. But it would still seem WSU has major ground to make up and not much time to do it.

"Washington State is a great school, especially with Mike Leach coming in and passing that ball he ways he does. It would be a nice school to go to," said Williams.

Williams' said his composure in the pocket was one of things Leach liked best about him.

"He talked about he handpicks his guys and he liked my tape," said Williams.

WILLIAMS SAID after he unofficially visits UW, he'll talk things over with his parents and then is likely to make the call.

Writers and bloggers had been saying for a while that it was pretty much down to Arizona and UW for Williams. With Arizona going a different direction with another QB commit this past week, those recruitniks are now saying UW is a virtual lock for Williams. He wasn't letting anything out of the bag.

"Well I don't have any leaders right now...but I grew up with a lot of the guys on the UW team," said Williams.
