Cougs on short list for long, lanky CB

KEVIN KING (6-3, 170) out of Oakland's Bishop O'Dowd is rated the No. 33 prep prospect in the nation at cornerback by Scout.com. He was the surprise winner of DB MVP honors at the NIKE Camp in Oakland, and he has the Cougs on his short list.

King is a long, lanky corner who had a solid showing at The Opening this past weekend.

On the recruiting front, King said two schools are currently recruiting him the hardest.

"California and West Virginia are on him the hardest right now," King said. "I've been to Cal several times but I haven't been out to West Virginia yet. They were actually the first school to offer me so I'm very interested. Hopefully I can get down there for an official visit.

"Washington State is another school I like and may take a visit to. Right now, I'm not sure when I'll make my decision. I could do it early or go through the process, I'm just going to play it by ear. I do want to take my official visits no matter what though to make sure I'm doing the right thing."

At The Opening, King didn't look overwhelmed at all and showed the length and athleticism that has so many colleges intrigued right now.

"I had a really good time, the whole experience was pretty eye opening for me," King said. "It was eye opening in terms of how much talent was out there but also for me to see that I can play with these guys. The coaches were great and I learned a lot from them.

"I had fun and loved the competition. I feel like I'm a better corner and a better football player for the experience. Now I'm ready to go back to my team and compete that much harder so it was great to be out here."
