Malik Jenkins (6-3, 210) out of Ennis, about 30 minutes outside of Dallas, has long been a fan of WSU area recruiter Eric Morris.
"I grew up watching him play with (Texas) Tech," said Jenkins. "I always used to want to play for Tech, they had Mike Leach and everybody there. So it was cool being recruited by a guy that I looked up to when he played… The (connection) was immediate with him."
JENKINS HOLDS OFFERS from Washington State, Rice, Houston, North Texas and Stephen F. Austin. Other schools in the mix include Oklahoma State, Arkansas, Illinois, UTSA and New Mexico.
Of that group, WSU and Rice are standing out the most.
"Those are the two main schools, (it's) just the relationship I have with the recruiter -- I guess you could say 'the bond' I have with them," said Jenkins.
JENKINS PROJECTS (in a 3-4) to a BUCK or defensive end at the next level. WSU linebackers coach Jeff Choate has also been integral in his recruitment by Wazzu.
"I talk to Rice probably... I talk to them at least 2-3 times a month.. With Washington State, I talk to them a lot, I try to talk to them all the time -- both Coach Morris and then Coach Choate, I talk to him too," said Jenkins.
JENKINS IS ALREADY well into offseason workouts with Ennis, and fall camp gets underway for him the first week in August. He said he anticipates making a decision after going on at least a few officials, including one to Washington State.
"I'm trying to get all that together but also right now I'm just really focused on us trying to win (the) state (title). I think I'm probably going to commit somewhere after I'm able to visit some schools," said Jenkins.
Jenkins posted 47 tackles and 10 sacks his junior season.
He carries a 3.6 GPA and scored a 1320 on the SAT.
