VIDEO: Breske Shaking Up Defense

PULLMAN -- Washington State defensive coordinator Mike Breske is impressed with the effort put forth by his defense over the first few days of fall camp. He talks 3-4 versus 4-3, zone versus man, and more in this exclusive video 1-on-1 interview.

Overall, Washington State defensive coordinator Mike Breske has been impressed with the progress the defense has made over the past few days.

"They are putting a lot of our scheme in right now. Even the freshmen are hanging in there. It was nice to get some heat today, and I'm really proud of our effort.

"We had fifteen practices this past spring, and basically we've just re-stalled. It was up in their minds somewhere, and they just needed to organize their thoughts, but it's looking really good right now," he said.

Many questions surround the defense, including the inexperience of the front seven, whether corners will be able to pull off man coverage, and if the 4-3 will ever be called this season.

Breske addresses all of these issues, but mum's the word when it comes to whether talented BUCKs Travis Long and Logan Mayes will simultaneously see the field.

"That's my secret," he laughed. "But there's a good possibility we'll get both of our playmakers on the field."

For now, Breske is taking it a day at a time and will further asses after the Cougars' tenth practice.

"Ask me after our first scrimmage," he says in response to who he think will emerge this season. "Practice ten will be our first scrimmage, and we'll have a lot of our scheme in, so I'll know more then."
