Video: Cougs at war with Army and Air Force?

CALEB NEWMAN, a 6-3, 225-pound linebacker from Lynden, burst onto the Washington State recruiting radar in May and subsequently earned a scholarship offer. He's off to solid start this season and after another great outing last Friday night he talked with Cougfan.com about Mike Leach, linebackers coach Jeff Choate, and his other suitors.

Newman plays a variety of positions on the Lynden defense, including defensive end, but projects as a college linebacker.

During Lynden's 34-7 victory over Burlington-Edison on Friday, he lined up at the MIK (middle linebacker) and showed off explosive athleticism. He has a nose for the ball and had at least three tackles for loss. On other plays when he would fall back into coverage, he often read the schemes of the offense and found himself near the ball to make tackles consistently.
