A look inside the 2013 class numbers

FOR ALL THE talk about Mike Leach's Air Raid offense, the head man of the Cougs is proving to be just as committed to stocking the coffers on the defensive side of the ball in the 2013 recruiting class.

WSU has 22 known commits (plus two 2012 holdovers). If you look at the 22 on the commit list, you'll notice something when breaking down the numbers.

Offensive and defensive commits are split right down the middle, with 11 apiece.

The breakdown:
1 QB
3 RB*
2 WR
5 OL
5 DL
2 LB
2 S
2 CB
* Versatile Jamal Morrow could be a CB, RB or an inside receiver for the Cougs.

AND FOR ALL THE talk about the Air Raid, Leach has but two receivers committed. That speaks to the group that came in last class and the young talent that was already in the fold, such as Dominique Williams.

GEOGRAPHICALLY SPEAKING, 15 of the 22 come from either California or Washington. The next highest state is Texas, with three.

The breakdown:
10 California
5 Washington
3 Texas
1 Alabama
1 American Samoa
1 Arizona
1 Oklahoma

WITH THE EXCEPTION of Carlos Freeman, the five offensive linemen in the group of 22 all stand 6-6 or better.

The five members average 6-6, 295 pounds.

FIVE COUGS WILL join the program when classes start next week, and one of those will count against the 2012 numbers. Those who have already signed their Letter of Intent and arrive this month are DE Lyman Faoliu, LB Ivan McLennan and OL Jacob Seydel.

WR Robert Lewis and OL B.J. Salmonson, who originally signed as part of Leach's 2012 class before delaying enrollment, have signed financial aid agreements.
