4 Cougar juniors who must impress this spring

THEY ARE THIRD- OR fourth-year juniors, meaning they have maturity and perspective, but a narrowing window in which to make a mark before the cap and gown go on. For the four whom Cougfan.com has included on this list, the spring season is more than simple competition and preparation. For a variety of reasons, it's prime time in determining the direction of the rest of their college careers.

Two are actually no strangers to the starting line up, but need to elevate their games in the face of notable competition and greater expectations from Mike Leach and his staff.

Another was good enough to play as a true freshmen in 2011, yet his action that season and in 2012 was limited and a younger player is ahead of him on the depth chart.

The fourth of our juniors who must impress this spring has skills, no doubt, but a downright miserable history with injury.

A fifth Cougar junior, BUCK linebacker Logan Mayes, would have been a contender for this list but he's on crutches right now and sources close to the program believe he'll be out of action all spring. When he returns in August he'll be battling for the BUCK role against touted JC transfer Ivan McLennan and up-and-coming Kache Palacio and Darryl Paulo.
