The last Pac-12 series the Cougs won was their first this season, against Top 25 ASU on the road. Ever since, it's been an exercise in growing frustration for head man Donnie Marbut and the Cougs.
USC evened the series against Washington State on Saturday with a 5-1 win. The Cougs took the opener 7-6 on Friday. That sets up Sunday's rubber match, with the first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m. in Los Angeles.
On the line is the Cougars' five year winning streak against USC -- Wazzu has won the Pac-12 series between the schools each of the last five
seasons, winning 11 of the last 15 games.
If the Cougs are to extend their streak to six, they'll need to get the bats going again.
WSU narrowly avoided a shutout on Saturday, only scoring in the ninth and posting but seven hits as USC's pitcher went all the way for a complete game win.
Washington State (21-25, 8-15 Pac-12) has seven Pac-12 games left on their schedule including Sunday's match, with one other game against UC Santa Barbara thrown in.
The Cougars are 259-240 under Marbut, who is in his ninth season as head coach at WSU.
