Wazzu-USC will be on new FoxSports 1

AT LEAST ONE Washington State football game this season will be on the new Fox Sports 1 channel, which launches in August. The TV broadcast info on four WSU football games is now available after the Pac-12 released their early season broadcast schedule. But wait a minute. Just what the heck is Fox Sports 1 and will it be available on your provider?

Other dates and times for the remaining eight games will be set during the season in the 12- and 6-day advance windows before the games. All 12 of the Washington State games will be televised over the various networks. The early TV info:

Sep. 7 at 7:30 PM
Washington State at USC - Fox Sports 1

Sep. 14 (TBD)
Southern Utah at Washington State - Pac-12 Networks

Oct. 31 at 7:30 PM
Arizona State at Washington State - ESPN

Nov. 29 at 12:30 PM
The Apple Cup: Washington State at UW - Fox

SO WHAT IS Fox Sports 1?

It's an all-sports network by Fox set to launch in August. Put another way, Fox is looking to challenge ESPN.

Fox Sports 1 will launch in either 87 or 90 million homes, according to most media reports. (ESPN is in about 99 million homes.)

FS1 will replace the Speed Channel on your dial, which is available on Comcast, DirecTV, Dish, etc., but only on certain tiers or packages.

So most can probably get it -- or already do get it -- on their provider. For those that already have the Speed channel, you should be all set. But...

But you may have to pay more for it.

THERE HAS BEEN talk this spring about how Fox will be charging providers considerably more for FS1 than they did for Speed, which would then almost certainly be followed by providers charging consumers more.

Bottom line, there remain some unknowns right now on how all the details on FS1 will play out over the next three months.
