Two future Cougs in the 2014 class, WR Keith Harrington and QB Peyton Bender, were assigned stars by Scout.com on Thursday for the first time.
For the previously unevaluated Florida products, Harrington was rated three stars and Bender was given two stars.
Harrington (as well as Calvin Green) continues to show in Scout's system as a running back prospect -- but both are coming to WSU as inside receivers.
The WSU '14 commit who has received the most press of late recently, however, is NT/DE Marcus Griffin. His ranking has not changed since he verbally committed to WSU (three stars, No. 39 DT) but it will go on an upward glide path at some point in the near future.
Griffin turned heads at the recent Oregon NFTC, so much so that his national rank is certain to rise -- it's just a question of how much and whether it's likely to happen after Scout has a chance to evaluate another of his camp performances at The Opening in less than two weeks, (July 1-3).
After several conversations and looking at it from all angles, our best guess in trying to read the tea leaves is Griffin will land somewhere between No. 20-29 for the DTs nationally. If he's between 20th and 24th, he's most likely to get four stars. If he's between 25th-29th, it's somewhat more likely he's going to stay at three stars.
One thing does seem certain at this point on Griffin -- he's a virtual lock to jump up to the No. 4 DT prospect in the West on Scout. He currently resides at No. 8 on that metric.
