Cougs offer Sooner State pick-off artist

WASHINGTON STATE HAS offers out to cornerbacks in Washington, California, Texas, Louisiana, Georgia and Florida -- and they recently added Oklahoma to that list. Indeed, the Cougs have offered a hard-hitting corner out of the Sooner State who had 10 interceptions last season.

Alfonzo McMillian, a senior-to-be out of Millwood High in Oklahoma City, picked up his crimson offer last week.

The Cougs joined North Texas and Sam Houston State in offering the 6-0, 180-pounder.

He also is receiving interest from Oklahoma State, Kansas, Kansas State, TCU and a few other programs.

"I was kind of surprised when the offer was put on the table," McMillian said of WSU. "I had been talking with their staff for a little while, but I didn't know if they were going to offer. I was very excited when it came in, though. That was a pretty big one for me."

McMILLIAN PLAYED ON both sides of the ball for Millwood last season. At cornerback, he recorded 10 interceptions and 50-plus tackles. As a receiver, he hauled in 23 receptions for over 500 yards.

"In my talks with the WSU staff, they said they really liked my great vision and ball recognition," McMillian said. "I feel like I'm great in coverage and have good size and strength.

"I also have a great work ethic. I never want to lose and make sure I go hard on every play in every game."

McMILLIAN SAID the Cougs have been selling him on the new facilities being constructed on campus and how the program is on the rise. It certainly has him intrigued.

"I've talked to my dad about it and we're trying to go up to Washington State this summer to visit the campus," McMillian said. "I want to try and visit there and North Texas. Out of the offers I have, I'd say those two schools are my favorites."

McMillian added that he wants to do his homework before pulling the trigger on a school.

"I'm not really going to rush this decision," McMillian said. "Academics are very important to me.

"I'm thinking about waiting until signing day, but you never know what could happen. We'll see how everything plays out."
